ALPE D'HUEZ SKI AREA

Alpe d’Huez is one of France’s top five alpine high altitude ski resorts and boasts an excellent snow record and extended season. It is renowned for its sunshine record and spectacular views of the Ecrins National Park Mountains.

There is excellent skiing & snowboarding for all abilities. For beginners the lower ski slopes surrounding Alpe d’Huez provide confidence boosting green and blue ski runs. Intermediates will find miles of interesting blue and challenging red ski runs with fantastic excursions to the satellite villages.

The advanced skier will find some of the most testing terrain in France from the top of Pic Blanc at 3330 metres, including the ‘Tunnel’ and the ‘Sarenne’ – the longest black ski run in Europe(16kms).

For snowboarders Alpe d’Huez is ‘friendly’ with its own snow-park suitable for beginner and intermediate snowboarders, and spectacular off piste possibilities for the more advanced snowboarder.

Cross country skiing in Alpe d'Huez: 54 kms of slopes.

SKI SCHOOL

Good instruction is an important aspect of your holiday, and choosing the right coaching to suit your requirements will pay dividends. We recommend the following local ski school which will provide you with first class instruction.

ESF Villard Reculas

Villard Reculas has its own ski school in the village for both skiers and snowboarders. Many instructors in the team speak English. Tuition in Villard Reculas is ideal for those who seek a quieter environment to learn and practice, smaller group sizes and no lift queues. Group lessons and private lessons can be arranged throughout the season.

There is 1 ski hire shop in Villard Reculas – which provides an excellent level of service.

We recommend the ‘Au P’tit Pingouin‘ – Sport 2000 for its friendly, professional, and cost efficient service, and its close proximity (100 metres) to Chalet La Source. English is well spoken in the shop
